A fighter

Let me tell you a story, about a fighter. Not the usual fighter, but a fighter who fought against sickness. This is a story of a girl who always fight against sickness.

Initially, this girl grew up very healthily and chubby as well. But at the age of 3 years old, she was diagnosed with asthma. Probably thanks to her habit when she was a baby that was eating everything she touched, even dirts. Because of the asthma, she had to stay away from so many triggering factors. Including, cannot laugh out loud or cry too much. Yes, emotional roller coster too can exacerbate her asthma.

Later she developed allergic rhinitis and allergic conjunctivitis. Thank goodness she did not has eczema as well. If not, she will have full package of atopic disease. What a bundle, right? And thanks to these atopic disease, she fell ill quite easily.

And growing up, she always had URTI every month. That URTI usually lead to acute exacerbation of asthma. But her MDI Salbutamol was a lifesaver up until she was 9 years old. As she easily fell sick, she was accustomed of taking medications, including tablets medications. It amazed her siblings and many friends her age that she can swallow tablet medications since she was 6 years old (not only the tiny tablet, but the big ones too). She was used to it anyway.

Her primary and secondary school years were filled with only a little activities. She had physician's letters indicating she had exercise induced asthma. Although she loves playing badminton, she couldn't played for a long time.

She also regularly had unprovoked epistaxis from 6 to 12 years old. Unsure of the cause, she was not worried about it. She only remembered how her siblings was terrified seeing her with bloody nose. It was funny seeing their expression. She was not afraid of blood (and insects and lizards too). Afterall the blood from the epistaxis stopped after 5-10 minutes and the bleeding was not severe.

Despite having recurrent fever that usually caused URTI, and it occured every month, she still enjoyed her life. Although her friends said that she didn't have the best childhood epxeriences, but she herself, was content.

In between that, she used to have her first acute gastroenteritis when she was 12 that made her vomit more than 30 times in a day that she swore she did not want to vomit anymore. It was nasty experience afterall, with bloody vomiting some more. But she still vomit when she couldn't hold it in. Yes, she was always afraid of vomiting that she usually hold it in. The cause of her first AGE was eating roti canai with soiled 'kuah'. Although, other roti canai was not guilty, she just couldn't bring herself to eat one after the incident. Only 7 years after that she managed to eat roti canai again.

Not only that, although she rarely had constipation but when she got constipation at 12 years old, that caused her to have anal fissure. It was very painful and caused her to loose quite a lot of blood, about a bowl. Since that she must not get another constipation episode but unfortunately she still get it anyway. But the bleeding was not severe as the first one.

Another things, her family was known to have low blood pressure or hypotension. And naturally she got it too. That was not pleasant too as she always had dizziness, vertigo, sense of her visions becomes black when she changed position. She always felt spinning around and there were times that she almost fainted. Lucky that there were friends around her when that happened.

She also had migraine, with others diseases that are not diagnosed as she was afraid. She is likely to have irregular heart beat that she noticed for quite a while now. However, her ECG was normal. She also probably has chronic otitis media considering she had recurrent URTI. And need to rule out Meniere's disease too.

Although she still fall sick easily even now, she does not really care. Afterall, Allah will not burdened His creations with anything beyond what he or she could tolerate. And although He took away the ni'mah of being healthy, He gave her plenty others ni'mah.

P/s: the girl mentioned in the story above is the writer herself.
